What Ernie Says

Posted on behalf of Tony Pitts for your enjoymnet:-

Subject: Ernie Els' Opinion of Tiger

David Feherty:
'People have accused me of being so far up Tiger's ass that he can barely make a
full swing, but I maintain that he is a special person. There's no one else on
the planet who can do what he does or even think of doing what he does. I've
often thought, instead of showing Tiger's reaction to a shot he's hit, we really
should show the reaction of those around him.'

But here is the next best thing. 'I'm walking down the 18th fairway at Firestone
Country Club with Ernie Els and Tiger, who has popped up a three-wood about 40
yards behind Ernie into some wet, nasty, horrible, six-inch rough,' Feherty
says. 'Tiger's cursing and taking clumps out of Ohio with his three-wood...and,
of course, we're not showing this on TV because we want to be able to interview
him later.

Ernie and I walk past Tiger's ball, and it is truly buried.

Ernie is tied with Tiger and he's in the middle of the fairway. I'm standing
with Ernie and my microphone is open. Ken Venturi [in the CBS booth] sends it to
me and I say, 'Tiger's got 184 yards with two big red oaks overhanging the
green. He's got absolutely nothing. With a stick of dynamite and a sand wedge I
might be able to move this ball 50 yards'.

Steve Williams [Woods' caddie] tells me [with a hand signal] that he's using a
pitching wedge.'

'Tiger takes his swing. Every muscle in his body is flung at the ball. It looks
like he's torn his nut sack. The divot went as far as I could hit the ball. I've
got my microphone at my mouth thinking, what the hell was that! The ball sails
over the trees, lands behind the hole and backs up to about six feet from the
flag. I open my microphone and Ernie turns and says, 'Fuck me!'

(is that a northern "Fuuk" me i wonder???)

'My producer comes on in my earpiece and says, 'Was that Ernie?' I say yes. He
says, 'Fair enough.'

'I could have described that shot for 15 minutes and not done as good a job as
Ernie did with two words. This is one of the best players in the world talking,
and you wanna know how good Tiger is? Ask Ernie Els.'

GOBDO Website

Something dreadful has happened to the Main Menu..??!!!

It works ok in Firefox and Safari, but not so well in Internet Explorer!!! :(((

Its too complex for me to change at this stage so I am going to give the site a new look early in the new year and make the site easier for me to upload changes and results etc..

Maybe that is why we do not use it anymore....?

Results 2007

Hi, all results for 2007 are on except for 2 cards I have misplaced? Hope to find them and put them on asap.

I may have mixed up some of the venue dates as we do not put the date on the cards when we play - maybe we could in the new year?

Thought this was apt at the moment.........

Little white golf ball please tell me of the trick
to hitting you down the middle with this skinny little stick.

I try to keep my left arm straight - my head is always down -
but still I see my best attempt go dribbling on the ground.

Why do I pull you to the left, or slice you to the right?
What will it take to hit you straight until you're out of sight?

The money spent on lessons - all the practice balls I hit
only adds to my frustration when it doesn't help a bit.

For even when I do things right it only lasts a while.
It never seems like very long before I lose my smile.

Little golf ball please tell me of the trick
to hitting you down the middle with this skinny little stick.

Touring pics (old & new)!

Well done Roy for harnessing the power/convenience of Flickr with our humble blog.

If you click now on the GALLERY tab you can view a slideshow of our trips to Ayr in 2004 and Brora in 2006. Furthermore, if you click the France 2007 link and then 'Pics 1' under 'Photos' on the right hand side of the page, you get advance course views and information about this October's trip to Villeneuve-sur-Lot; how clever is that?

Enjoy!!!

Bernie Toper - Non chevra

Does anyone remember where, why and when Bernie performed this classic act?

video

Swedish Mini-Golf putting lesson 2

video

In this clip there is a similarity with yours truly - note the Swedish swearing at the end!

Both clips are of Johanna'a dad (Mike's father-in-law) whilst he was practising at the local Stockholm 'course' prior to our visit last month. It paid off - he beat me convincingly!
He is also a very lovely man who, it has to be said, is a trifle eccentric - but he is a mathematics teacher!!!!

Notice the similarity to Alban's body sway; this man beat me easily, but how?

Come on guys, it's getting embarrassing!

As one of the longest established and certainly most revered golfing 'societies' on the planet with readers throughout the universe, and possibly beyond, we should be setting higher standards. Things are slipping; all is not well; there are people tittering at us from the shadows!

I am not referring to Alban's choice of socks here, though they are questionable, but to our recent scoring record. Apart from Vera's magnificent round at Royal North Devon it has been abysmal of late and must improve.

Now I know that an easy and convenient explanation lies in the fact that we're having too much fun out there but come on! This game is serious stuff and surely it is not asking too much that we can still enjoy ourselves but play better?

Just in case Bernie reads this I'll not say where we're playing next week, but let's get some decent scores on the board and restore a modicum of decency to the results page.
Reg will be missing (poor chap is on duty in Montreux with Mrs Soarover) but hopefully the remainder will all come in with at least 33 points with the winner carding 38.

Thanks for a great party!

Thanks to everyone who helped me celebrate my 50th. I had a great time and enjoyed every minute of it!

Did anyone see this latest edition of Golf Weekly.......?

Maud Nally

I have heard that, as Vera is unable to accompany us to Bergerac this autumn, Maud Nally will be filling the empty berth. Welcome aboard Maud. or, as they say locally "entrer dans le jardin Maud".

Jessie's back

As you have no doubt heard Jessie either absconded, was kidnapped or simple got lost while visiting Cape Cornwall.
Well the good news is that she is safely back with me after a fortnight's "holiday" at St Just.
I have given her a good talking to and she has promised it won't happen again and that she will be getting them down for me again on Friday at the Rosevear's jolly during golf week.
